Good morning beauties. I woke up this morning feeling lovely. Today is a rowing day for me so that’s def going down this am!

Have you ever woke up and just wanted something that isn’t your typical breakfast? There I was slicing strawberries and bananas up and I just was not in the mood! So what did I do? Sautéd up some broccoli with ponzu sauce garlic ginger etc. I added fresh avocado 🥑 and black sesame on top. As far as eating healthy (80/20 approach for me) I don’t care if you eat fruit salad or stir fry for breakfast. Just eat something with some color.

Marika Fitness Apparel Review and Giveaway!


How many sports bras do you own? A ton? Hardly any? I own about ten sports bras. Some of them are worn and stretchy, some are too small, some have no support, and some are just plain uncomfortable. I don’t think I have ever spent more than ten dollars on a sports bra. Maybe that is why I am left with horrible options! When I started running just this past month I discovered I needed a really good bra. I was sick of having to wear TWO bras for support. A bra should do it’s job–make the girls stay in place! I was determined to find the right bra for me!

Luckily I got the opportunity to review some workout clothes from Marika Fitness. Marika was founded back in 1982. They make contemporary fitness apparel. I got to review one top, one bra, and one pair of workout pants. Let’s start with the bra shall we.

I knew I needed something with a lot of support so I chose this bra-

The high Impact Sports Bra. They make high impact bras in all sorts of styles, but I really liked the simplicity of this bra. The description. “Finally a sport bra that does just what it says! The bra features removable cup pads for added uplift and support, adjustable side hooks, ventilation power mesh at racer back, coolmax lined to help you keep dry. This bra is perfect; especially for the bigger cup size, it will give you support for that kickbox class”. Now when I saw the price of 50 dollars I was thinking this bra better cradle my girls with ease! Seriously I am that cheapskate who REFUSES to spend money on good quality things. I would rather spend ten dollars and have it collapse. I am so glad I tried this bra out. I will never go back to the cheapsies sports bras!

The first thing I noticed was the material. It was so soft and seemed breathable. On to the cups. The removable cups just seemed straight up fancy to me! The back of the bra has a super soft mesh with a cute keyhole like back. Lastly, there are adjustable straps on the sides. The color was beautiful. It does come in a ton of other colors also. So now I had this fancy sports bra. Time to try her out! I slipped it on and really liked how soft it felt on my skin. I did a few jumping jacks. You won’t believe this. NO BOUNCING CHESTICLES. I don’t know about you guys, but with having a bigger chest even the easiest exercises are hard and make me feel silly doing them. This bra kept me in place. Miracle. I decided to take myself on a jog. I braced myself waiting for this bra to totally fail me once I got into full motion. However, it did the opposite. Everything stayed in place. Nothing rubbed me the wrong way. I was literally free to run and not feel self conscious. After a few miles I came home. What I really love about the bra, BESIDES the amazing ability to keep me in place, was that the back of the bra let me breathe a bit. The mesh material helped keep me cooler. Love. Absolutely love. I can’t believe all of these years I have been throwing money down the toilet buying cheap bras that don’t work for me.This bra may cost 50 dollars, but running free and not worrying about the girls? Priceless. Rating 9 out of 10. Ps- It’s really awkward trying to come up with nicknames for the chest.

Marika Magic – Plus Tummy Control Capri. Since I live in the Florida Keys, I have pretty much warm weather year around. I don’t like showing off my thighs, and leggings or pants are way too hot. I am a workout in capris kind of chick. Always have and always will be. I was overwhelmed with the many choices of capris that I could choose from. Marika has a huge selection! I decided to check out their “plus” size section and found these comfy looking pants. First of all, props to Marika for giving us bigger girls options! The selection wasn’t huge, but you can tell that they obviously care and support all sizes of women. Fantastic. The pants description is this. Great capri pant is now available in Plus sizes; features a 4″ inner power mesh waistband for tummy control. Tummy control? Yes please.

DSC00934 The pants are soft and well made. You can easily do a workout in these pants as well as wear them out to do errands. I am totally that girl doing errands in workout pants! The tummy control is just a thicker strip of material on top, It doesn’t like take ten pounds off of you or anything, but it offers some support for sure.They felt good during my workout and didn’t ride up too far. Rating 8/10.

Balance – Cool Factor Long Sleeve Burnout Tunic. I seriously spent like twenty minutes trying to pick out the perfect top. I saw about fifteen that I was in love with. I ended up going with this long sleeve tunic for a few reasons. It’s lightweight, it has kangaroo pockets, and I am obsessed with the burnout look. It’s perfect for layering while running. I paired this tunic with a white tank top and it ended up being super cute. I was so impressed with the softness and quality of this top. It’s perfect for working out. Who doesn’t love to look cute AND get fit?! Oh and one more thing about the kangaroo pockets. PERFECT. My iphone has never been happier during a run! Rating 9/10.

Final thoughts. If you are going for comfort, style, and durability in workout clothes I would certainly recommend Marika for your needs. Their customer service is professional, polite, and attentive. I got my order in just a few days.

Ladies don’t keep buying those crappy cheap bras that don’t support you. I promise this is an investment for your chest that you will NOT regret! I believe in this bra so much that Marika is going to give one of YOU a high impact sports bra! A 50.00 dollar value.

Food Prep for the week!


I made 1 pound of 97% fat free ground turkey with Mrs. Dash no salt garlic flavor. This will be for salads and whatever.8:25prep1

I also made 97% fat free turkey sausage links for breakfast. The recipe is easy. One pound of ground turkey, a ton of sage, some sea salt, onion powder, chili powder, and pepper. I never measure. Just make sure you put a lot of sage! Ps- links are hard to make and come out lumpy shaped. I will stick to little patties next time 🙂8:25prep3

For breakfast I made my friend Cathy’s oatmeal muffins. I used oats, banana, zucchini, coconut, cashews, and a few dark chocolate chips. Perfection! The recipe made 12 muffins so that is basically breakfast all week for two people! Going to pair the muffin with a turkey sausage link for the perfect breakfast.

It makes life so much easier prepping. I feel in control and excited to have a week of healthy eats!

 

 

 

Healthy Guilty Pleasure Recipes. French Fries, Pizza, Mac and Cheese, Nutella oh my!

Hey guys, I’m back! I’ve put together even more recipes to satisfy your daily cravings except instead these are guilty pleasures turned healthy.  Working at a medical and cosmetic practice is tough! We specialize in breast reconstructive surgery and breast augmentations in Kansas City so we always want to look our best even if I just want to devour an entire cheesecake. Everyone is always wondering how I stay healthy and (somewhat) slim but bring fries and mac and cheese to work! Well here is my secret: tweaking recipes and finding recipes that allow me to have what I want but a better form of it. Then I make a bunch so it’s accessible right at the tip of my fingers and even bring it into work for lunch. So that mac and cheese and delicious French fries can really be yours forever without worrying about chemicals and extra fat that your body just does not need!

FRENCH FRIES! 

–       The healthy way, which is even easier than the non-healthy way!

Ingredients:

  • 5 Large Roasting Potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Then Peel and Wash the potatoes to prepare for slicing.
  3. Begin slicing, I like to use a mandolin to get perfect sizes for even baking, if you don’t have one just use your knife and be sure to cut the french fries even in size. Your potatoes will cook best when even, thin and long.
  4. (OPTIONAL) Once sliced, place the potatoes in a bowl and cover with salted water and soak for 30 minutes. I like to soak the potatoes to release some of the starch, it also helps crisp up the fries in the oven.
  5. After the 30 minutes elapsed – it is time we dry the potatoes. This is a crucial because if the potatoes are not completely dry, they will not crisp up as nicely and the moisture will cause them to steam in the oven.
  6. Lay the potatoes on a baking pan, season them with salt and pepper and brush some olive oil on the tops of them. Once in the oven, ensure that you turn them periodically to have even browning. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Mac and Cheese

–        Yes, I said mac and cheese! Just a tad healthier, of course.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of pasta, either bow tie, macaroni, etc. Any small noodle works
  • 2 1/2 cups of fat free or 1% milk (plus extra if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 cup of shredded low-fat smoked mozzarella
  • 1 cup of shredded low-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup extra smoked mozzarella cheese for topping, plus about 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of Italian bread crumbs (or plain bread crumbs with Italian seasoning added)
  • 1 head of broccoli, trimmed, washed, and chopped into bite size pieces
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 2 chicken breasts, cooked and cut into bite size pieces (left over chicken works great in this recipe)
  • about 1/2 cup of roasted red peppers, diced
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large soup pot, bring water to a boil over medium high heat. Add pasta and cook for about 10 minutes until the pasta is al dente (soft, but still has texture to it).
  2. While the pasta is boiling, heat another saucepan and heat a frying pan. In the saucepan at low heat, add milk but do not boil! Once the milk is warm, add butter and cheese and stir until smooth. If the sauce is really thick, add extra milk.
  3. In the frying pan, sauté tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and broccoli in a little bit of olive oil. Add the precooked chicken and allow to warm up.
  4. When the pasta is cooked, drain and place back into the large soup pot. Add cheese sauce, and chicken veggies. Stir to combine.
  5. Grease a large baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour noodles and cheese into the baking dish.
  6.  In a small bowl, combine the extra mozzarella and parmesan cheeses with the bread crumbs. Sprinkle evenly on top.
  7. Bake for about 20-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown on top.

Pizza!

–       Mmhmm you can have your mac and cheese and your pizza too!

Ingredients:

  • Cornmeal for sprinkling
  • 1tsp olive oil
  • 2 large red onions, halved and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
  • 3 cloves garlic  
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 whole grain pizza dough or gluten-free pizza dough (trader joe’s has a delicious variety)
  • 20 pitted, oil-cured black olives, coarsely chopped
  • 2 oz thinly sliced prosciutto, torn into small pieces
  • 1 ¼ cups reduced-fat sour cream

Instructions:

  1. Heat grill to medium. Alternately, place a pizza stone on middle oven rack, turn oven to 500°F, and heat stone for 20 minutes (or use a baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal; preheat oven but not sheet to 500°F). If grilling or using a stone, generously sprinkle a wooden pizza peel or baking sheet with cornmeal.
  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and rosemary; sauté for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to low, add garlic, and continue cooking, stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes, or until onions are soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. On a lightly floured clean surface, roll dough (read instructions on dough package first, some suggest letting the dough sit prior to handling)  to form a 14-inch circle. If grilling pizza, transfer to prepared peel or sheet, then gently lift and slide dough onto grill grates (don’t worry, dough won’t slide through the grates). Dough will immediately stiffen and begin to brown; cook 2 minutes. Turnover and cook until bottom side stiffens but doesn’t brown, about 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer crust back to peel or sheet (with the more-cooked side facing up) to add toppings. If baking pizza, slide dough onto heated pizza stone or onto baking sheet and cook 5 minutes. Remove stone or sheet from oven to add toppings.
  4. Scatter onions and olives over pizza. If grilling, slide pizza back onto grill and cook 6 minutes more. If baking, cook pizza 10 minutes more, or until edges are golden.
  5. Next, scatter prosciutto over onions and olives and grill or bake for 2 to 3 minutes more. Transfer grilled pizza to peel or sheet, or remove pizza from oven. Dab small spoonfuls of sour cream all over pizza, spreading them slightly with the back of a spoon. When sour cream begins to melt, cut pizza into 8 slices and serve.

Nutella!

–       Who doesn’t love Nutella? Well now you can make your own without all that extra stuff your body seriously does not need.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  •  2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cup, whole Hazelnuts or Filberts Nuts
  • 3 tbsp Cocoa Powder (Unsweetened)
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 0.3 cup Almond Milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Roast your hazelnuts for 10 minutes on a baking sheet in the oven.
  3. Take out and let cool down and rub the nuts together in a towel to remove the skins. Some skins will remain on the hazelnuts, but that’s no problem.
  4. Put the nuts into a food processor and blend until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. If your food processor/ high speed blender is very good, you may won’t need any milk (but can add for taste)
  5. Fini! Feel free to add more of any ingredients to get that special taste just for you!

I have a little announcement! I reached my weight loss goal for May! I lost 12 pounds. My goal was 10. I reached it early also! There is still almost a week left in May.

I also kept track of how many miles I walked each day. My goal was 120. Well as of today I have walked 143 miles. That means I walked the entire length of the Florida Keys and up to Homestead Florida! That is a long walk!! I am super proud of myself. I still have a few days left so who knows what the final total will be!

I have been using a calendar to track my steps this month. Once I reach my goal I always check it off the calendar. It really helps to see all of my hard work right up there on the fridge. I decided to make a new workout schedule calendar for June.

Weigh-In Update!


My goal for this week was to lose 4 pounds.

Drum Roll—–

I lost 3.8 pounds. I will totally take that! This makes a total weight loss for May 9.2 pounds!

Yes! I also tallied up my miles this month. I am at 78.7! Not bad since my goal for the entire month was 120. I am well on my way.

This week I will be upping my calories to 1300-1400. My goal for week 3 in May is 4 pounds!

I am so excited. I am back in my health groove for sure!!

Another weekend report.


logo_ver3Another weekend on track! I did have a few shots of vodka with fresh coconut water on Saturday night but I tracked everything. I did not have one splurge meal!

We took a lot of walks, relaxed, and I got totally spoiled for Mother’s day. I am a pet mommy! I got new sheets, a candle, a sleeping mask, a measuring cup, two new awesome smoothie cups, lip gloss, a new pillow, a super sweet card, breakfast in bed, AND I didn’t have to do any chores 🙂

I still have a few days before my weigh in for the second week of May. I am hoping for a 4 lb loss. Fingers crossed. I started adding in more strength training this time so that is making me happy. Just a few sessions and I can already see/feel a difference in my arms etc.

The weather is super warm here in the Keys. Pretty soon it will be swimming and snorkeling in the canal for 4 hours every single day. I love summertime here. I get the most glowing tan 🙂

I am planning on starting the 30 day shred again for June + getting my 60 minute swims in. For the rest of May I will continue with my own strength training plans and a ton of walking.

Sorry I haven’t had a ton of  new recipes up, but I have been tracking all of my food over on my facebook account. Make sure you like me if you have not already!
